Bundesliga provides 'example to follow' after restart, says LaLiga president Javier Tebas

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has hailed the return of the Bundesliga and says the German league is an example to follow for the Spanish competition.

Millions of people all around the world tuned in as the Bundesliga got back underway on Saturday following a two-month break due to coronavirus, and Tebas remains confident LaLiga will start up again next month.

"I’m very happy and I have congratulated them because they have taken a very important step," he told Movistar+. "We have worked hard on this together over the past months, we’ve exchanged protocols, ideas… we spoke once or twice every week.

"I’m very proud of the Bundesliga. It wasn’t easy; they were the first to get up and running and they are an example to follow."

Group training started again in Spain on Monday after the government gave the green light for professional teams to step up from individual workouts and Tebas believes the return to action will be similar to what has happened in Germany in matches over the weekend.

"We might change some parts of the protocol, smooth out some things that we can maybe do in a different way, but practically it will be the same," he said.

There are currently 11 rounds remaining in LaLiga and Tebas is keen for the competition to finish by the end of July, with games scheduled every day of the week in an attempt to appease fans and broadcasters after the lengthy hiatus.

"We’re working to restart LaLiga from June 12 onwards, but it will be up to the health authorities to tell us when we can start," he said.

"There will be football every day. That’s what I hope. We shouldn’t have any problems playing on Mondays across the eleven rounds of matches we have left to play.

"I hope for some sense from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on this, because it’s very important for us to be able to give both our national and international broadcasters, and fans across the world, football on as many days as possible to ensure as little harm as is possible."
