Wenger Out brigade vow to come back stronger next season after 'Dunkirk' of Arsenal boss' new contract

Anti-Arsene Wenger Arsenal supporters have insisted they will come back stronger next season despite seeing the Frenchman sign a new two year contract.

A string of protests including aerial banners and marches on the stadium attempted to unsettle Wenger, who has since hit out at the “disgraceful” treatment he received this season.

The 'No New Contract' movement will meet later this month to plan future activities, which are expected to include further aircraft fly overs.

“People have already started waking up to the empty rhetoric,” Mark King, a member of the protest group, told Standard Sport. “The Cup Final was great but nothing has changed.

“It won't take long for the frustration to return to the level it was at after the Crystal Palace game.

“Yesterday was like our Dunkirk, a bit of a defeat but we’ll take some glory from the fact we gave it a good shot. We’ll regroup and plan for next season.”

Another member of the protest group, Chris Butler, added: “We're going to be all over him. We're not going to stop.”

Though their protests drew interest online the movement struggled to attract widespread attendance at their marches with many fans loath to be seen to be hounding Wenger out of a club where he has won a record seven FA Cups and three Premier League titles.

Notably there appears to be a greater appetite at the Emirates to protest against majority owner Stan Kroenke.

The Emirates notably seemed united in a chant of “Stan Kroenke you’re killing our club” during the 3-1 victory over Everton in the final game of the Premier League season, a match that came days after it emerged the American billionaire had rejected a takeover bid from minority shareholder Alisher Usmanov.

There remains some debate within the anti-Wenger movement over how much pressure to exert on Kroenke but it appears likely that the owner will face a greater backlash in the coming months.

“Kroenke has handcuffed himself to Wenger.

“We gave him a bit of a free ride last year because he released £100million to Wenger, which he spent to take us from second to fifth. Kroenke doesn’t train the players, pick the formation or make the substitutions.

“We firmly believe Wenger is the number one problem on the field. By Kroenke coming out with all that nonsense yesterday and giving the manager a two year contract he has put himself in the same boat as Wenger.”
