Mauricio Pochettino has been studying film of Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund teams to give Tottenham the edge over Liverpool on Saturday.

Klopp takes charge of his first game as Liverpool boss at White Hart Lane and Pochettino believes the German’s arrival will benefit the Premier League.

Klopp led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, as well as the Champions League Final in 2013 – and Pochettino knows where to look for information on his teams.

“We have watched a lot of games from Dortmund and we have a clear idea of how he can play,” said Pochettino.

“He impressed us with his job at Dortmund, and we wish him all the best after Saturday.

“When you come into a new country as a manager, you have to convince the players that they can believe in your ideas and your philosophy – that’s the first thing.

“Then you need to know the culture, the different mentality, the different football.

"When you are a manager like Klopp, who can reach the Champions League Final, you have the skill to realise, and adapt your ideas to the new culture and the new football. He knows he is in a big club.”

Klopp will face a depleted Tottenham side, especially in midfield. Heung-min Son remains sidelined with a foot problem while Pochettino also has a headache in midfield.

Both Ryan Mason (knee) and Nabil Bentaleb (ankle) will be kept back for at least another week, while Eric Dier serves a one-match suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the campaign in the 2-2 draw at Swansea.

“I am happy with the squad,” Pochettino added. “You want to have all players fit and available, but we need to accept the situation.”
