Harry Redknapp believes today’s Tottenham side would be no match for the Spurs squad he put together as they look to match his feat of knocking AC Milan out of the Champions League.

Almost 12 years ago to the day, the Italian giants arrived in north London a goal down in a last-16 tie that Tottenham went on to win despite being the much-less fancied side.

This time around the roles are reversed with Milan the underdogs and a goal up on Antonio Conte’s side, which Redknapp believes to be of lesser quality than the line-up he assembled as manager.

When asked by TMW which team he thinks is better, Redknapp replied: “Mine.

“And I think if we had Harry Kane we would have been an incredible team. Imagine him with Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.”

Along with Bale and Modric, Redknapp’s side featured the likes of Rafael van der Vaart, Jermain Defoe and less revered players including Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Alan Hutton.

Redknapp is still backing today’s Tottenham team of Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero to get the better of Milan tonight.

“I watched the first leg,” he added. “Tottenham have some difficulties away from home sometimes, but I think the 1-0 defeat wasn't a bad result and I'm sure they'll turn the tables in the second leg.

“They'll have the advantage of playing in front of their home crowd and it will be a different atmosphere. And in the great European nights the team will perform.”
