Steve Bruce has blasted the "hugely disrespectful" Aston Villa fan who threw a cabbage at him ahead of the dramatic draw with Preston on Tuesday.

The Villa boss was hit by the vegetable, launched by a disgruntled supporter, prior to his side’s meeting with the Championship bottom club.

The home draw heaped more pressure on Bruce, whose side surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 and keep the Midlands club firmly in mid-table.

“To say it is disappointing it an understatement for a club like this,” Bruce said post-match. “[The cabbage was thrown] before we had even started too.

“I find the whole thing hugely disrespectful. Unfortunately it sums up the society we are in at the moment, there is no respect for anyone.

“Certainly for someone like the bloke who is being questioned. I’m surprised he knew what a cabbage was.”

Villa fell 3-2 behind in the 86th minute on Tuesday night with chants of ‘we want Brucie out’ emerging from the Holte End as the atmosphere turned toxic.

Yannick Bolasie scored a late equaliser before Glenn Whelan was given the opportunity to win the contest in the 97th minute - only to miss from the penalty spot.
