Jack Grealish has signed a five-year contract at Aston Villa following Tottenham’s failed pursuit of him this summer.

The 23-year-old, one of the top performers in the Championship last season, was coveted by Spurs last summer but Villa held firm over their £30million price tag.

Villa chief executive Christian Purslow said: “Securing the long-term future of Jack, a player we believe will play a pivotal role in leading Aston Villa back to where it belongs, is fantastic news for everybody associated with our football club.

“He is a tremendous talent who has been with us since he was a child and naturally we are delighted that he has now committed the next five years of his career to Aston Villa.”

Grealish has remained a consistent presence in Steve Bruce’s side despite missing out on the move, missing just 52 minutes of Villa’s first nine Championship games of the season, but has not hit the heights he reached last season when he helped lead his boyhood club to the Playoff Final only to lose out to Fulham.
