Tottenham set to learn fate of Fabio Paratici’s football ban as Italian appeal nears conclusion

Ruling on managing director’s 30-month ban will impact Spurs one way or another

Tottenham can expect to discover the outcome of Fabio Paratici’s appeal against his 30-month suspension from Italian football within a month.

In January, Spurs’s managing director of football was banned for two-and-a-half years by the Italian football federation (FIGC) for his part in Juventus’s alleged financial irregularities and accounting scandal, which saw the Serie A club docked 15 points.

Juve, Paratici and the other officials involved have appealed the decision to the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), who are expected make a decision in the next one to four weeks.

CONI only has the power to decide if the original ruling is legitimate or not, but cannot reduce or change any of the sanctions. If CONI rules the ruling was correct, the FIGC immediately will ask UEFA and FIFA to extend the bans globally.

If the original decisions are ruled illegitimate, however, the case will be returned to the FIGC Court of Appeals for a new trial, which could take weeks.

The process has increased the uncertainty at Spurs, who are expected to part ways with head coach Antonio Conte by the end of his contract in June, although Paratici’s situation is expected to be resolved before then.

Former Juventus directors Andrea Agnelli, Pavel Nedved and Maurizio Arrivabene were also hit with bans by the FIGC. Juventus and their former directors have denied any wrongdoing and there is no suggestion that Paratici has done anything wrong since joining Spurs in 2021.
