Erik ten Hag: West Ham’s ‘huge investment’ make them a genuine threat to Manchester United

Erik ten Hag believes West Ham could pose a threat in the Premier League in the years to come.

While David Moyes’ side have endured a difficult start to the season, the club invested around £150m over the course of the summer to build on two successful seasons.

The Irons finished the last two campaigns in sixth and seventh respectively, reaching the Europa League semi-finals and are again impressing on the continental stage.

Domestic form might be a current concern but the Europa Conference League offers a genuine chance of silverware, a tangible example of the progress that has been made.

Off the back of such investment, ten Hag believes the club can continue to pose real competition to the established order.

The Manchester United manager believes the landscape in the Premier League is changing and tipped West Ham, along with Newcastle, as rivals.

Speaking to BBC Sport, ten Hag said: “Newcastle are coming, even West Ham, maybe not now in the table but they have huge investment. Spurs definitely and I don’t need to talk about City and Liverpool or Chelsea. You can quickly count seven or eight clubs that can compete in this league.

"It’s also about strategy not just money. But it’s clear that when you don’t have the right players and quality players you will not be successful and achieve the targets you set."
