An eighteen-year-old performing arts student will make her West End debut tonight after winning a competition for a one-off walk-on role in Billy Elliot.

But Rebecca White, from Croydon, is hoping her appearance in the show is just the beginning of her stage career.

Ms White, who has just finished a BTEC in performing arts, was chosen at random from more than 1,600 people who answered the question posed of young Billy in the show when he auditions for the Royal Ballet School — what does it feel like when you are dancing?

She answered: “It makes me explore my artistic side and emotions through movement. It makes me feel happy and alive. It makes me more passionate about the career I want to do.”

Ms White said she screamed with excitement when told she would be peforming numbers in the hit musical. “I couldn’t believe it. I went to Billy Elliot for my 18th birthday and once I’ve trained, the West End is definitely my dream.”

She rehearsed with the company and has been fitted for her debut at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
