Fans of The Notebook will be able to cry tears of joy as there are talks to adapt the romantic tale for TV.

Based on the book by Nicholas Sparks, the film saw Noah (Ryan Gosling) narrate the story of how he fell in love with Allie (Rachel McAdams) against the back drop of post-World War II America.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the series will "follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina."

CW president Mark Pedowitz does not believe that the series will feature the older couple, so there may not be any mention of Allie's Alzheimer's.

During a Television Critics Association panel he said: "The Notebook is a very, very well-received book and motion picture. It is going to be set after World War II.

"At this point the pilot's not done - I do not believe we are going to see the older couple.

"Things change, we are now at the very beginning of the development stage."

But fans hoping to see Gosling and McAdams reunite onscreen may be disappointed as there has been no mention of their involvement.

Todd Graff will pen the script while Nicholas Sparks Production and Warner Bros. TV will produce the series.
