Ryan Gosling was faced with a rather awkward moment when his phone went off during an interview with BBC Breakfast.

The 34-year-old star was talking to newsreader Charlie Staydt about his directorial debut, Lost River when an iPhone message alert went off on his phone.

Clearly embarrassed by the interruption he said, “Oh my God I’m sorry about that”, before throwing his phone across the room and telling Staydt that he felt “ashamed”.

He then sat on his hands in embarrassment and thanked Staydt for “being very kind about it”.

When asked about how he would react if someones mobile phone went off while he was on the set of a film he said that he would go "nuts" and be "tugging his shirt off".

Gosling - who recently became a father for the first time to daughter Esmerelda who he has with actress Eva Mendes - also attended a Q&A at the Apple Store in London last night to talk about taking to the directors chair for Lost River.

He was joined at the event by host Edith Bowman and former Doctor Who Matt Smith who plays Bully in the Gothic fairytale.
