Stormzy revealed he has been rendered “speechless” after securing his first ever number one with new song Vossi Bop.

The grime star saw the track, which was released last Friday, shoot straight to the number one spot with 12.7 million listeners, according to the Official Charts Company.

The stats marked the biggest week of streams ever for a rapper and smashed the previous record set by Drake’s In My Feelings by over two million, making it the fifth biggest streaming week of all time.

Speaking about the milestone achievement, Stormzy thanked fans for getting his single to the top of the charts.

In a massive week for the rapper, who is set to headliner Glastonbury later this year, he also claimed the second biggest first week of combined sales of 2019 with 94,500, just falling behind Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings.

The song gained mass attention for its controversial lyrics which took aim at the government and Boris Johnson.

The video for the track saw Idris Elba make a surprise cameo appearance alongside the star, real name Michael Omari.

Vossi Bop’s success pushed Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road to the second spot with Taylor Swift’s ME! debuting at number three.

Taking the remaining places in the top five was Lewis Capaldi’s mammoth hit Someone You Loved and Meduza ft. Goodboys with Piece of Your Heart.

Meanwhile Pink landed her third UK number one album with latest release Hurts 2B Human.
