Celine Dion paid tribute to the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks at the American Music Awards.

The superstar gave an emotional rendition of Edith Piaf's Hymne a l'Amour during her performance at the LA ceremony on Sunday.

Bringing much of the audience to tears, the 47-year-old performed against the backdrop of a video montage.

Photos of Paris landmarks including the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower filled the theatre as well as footage of candlelit vigils following the attacks.

AMAs producer Larry Klein told Billboard: “Celine's performance will help us express our feelings through songs, when words do not suffice.”

Dion was introduced onto the stage by Oscar-winning actor and musician Jared Leto, who also decided to speak about the attacks.

He told the crowd that his band 30 Seconds to Mars had performed at the Bataclan theatre just months before the attacks that killed 89 people in the venue last week.

Speaking about the show, he said: “It was beautiful, peaceful and unforgettable.

“What a difference a day makes. Seven months later on the evening of November 13, 2015 that same venue was under siege.

“One in a series of terrorist attacks on Paris that changed the world forever.”
