Survivors of the Orlando massacre are being helped by "comfort dogs" deployed to the city to soothe their emotional pain.

Golden Retrievers were sent to Orlando on Monday, a day after Omar Mateen opened fire on Pulse gay club in an attack in which 49 people died.

The retrievers will be sent to local hospitals to comfort victims as well as anyone else affected by the shooting

Lutheran Church Charities’ K-9 (LLC K9) Comfort Dogs president Tim Hetzner told ABC News: “Your blood pressure goes down when you pet a dog, you feel more comfortable, and people end up talking.

“They’re good listeners, they’re non-judgemental, they’re confidential.”

According to the LLC K9 Facebook, 11 trained golden retrievers and 19 members of staff from the charity are currently helping the community

Comfort dogs were also deployed in the US after the Boston marathon bombing and the Sandy Hook shooting.
