Landmarks across the globe have been lit up in dazzling rainbow colours to honour the 49 victims killed in the Orlando nightclub massacre.

Bright colours were beamed onto tourist spots including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia as the world paid tribute to those killed and injured when Omar Mateen, 29, opened fire on crowds at the Pulse gay nightclub in Florida.

Across the US, The World Trade Centre and Madison Square Garden in New York, the Orlando Eye, Los Angeles Hall and the Dallas skyline were among the landmarks illuminated in the LGBT flag.

Amsterdam’s Royal Palace and the stone pillars of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall were also lit up in a rainbow.
