Police have appealed for information after a swan was shot dead with a pellet gun in the Thames in south-west London.

Officers were dispatched to the river at Canbury Gardens in Kingston following reports that two swans had been shot on Friday, December 29.

One of the swans was found dead while another had been injured.

Kingston Police said they discovered the wounded swan on the pontoon, looking “very exhausted” and with its right eye missing.

The animal was taken to the vet, where an X-ray revealed a pellet lodged in its skull.

Police were alerted that another swan had been shot in the same river on Monday, January 15.

Officers are appealing to any witnesses of these incidents to come forward with information by calling 101 and quoting ref 0400347/24.

Alternatively, to remain anonymous witnesses can call Crimstoppers on 0800 555 111.
