Shocking footage shows the moment a central London flat was on fire, with flames bursting out of the window.

The London Fire Brigade were called shortly after 5pm on Thursday to a block of flats on Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were at the scene, where half a first-floor flat was ablaze.

Footage of the fire shows the flames coming out of the window of the flat and huge plumes of smoke above.

The London Fire Brigade said the fire was under control by 5.44pm but its cause is not yet known.

Westminster City Council posted on X, formerly Twitter: “We are aware of the incident at Fountain Court on Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria.

“Our officers are at the scene supporting the London Fire Brigade. Please keep away from the area if you can.”

Firefighters from Chelsea, Lambeth, Soho and surrounding fire stations attended.
