Notting Hill Gate tube station in central London was temporarily shut on Friday afternoon after a person lost their life on the tracks.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were scrambled to the scene with photos showing around 16 emergency vehicles outside the station - which was shut while the incident was dealt with.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Notting Hill Gate Underground station at 2.21pm today (27 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

Notting Hill Gate Underground station was closed, but reopened at around 4pm.

The Central line was initially suspended while the incident was dealt with but later reopened, although severe delays remained in place around 5pm.

A TfL spokesperson said: “The Central line was part suspended White City to Liverpool Street but that suspension is now lifted and Notting Hill Gate station is open again.

“We currently have severe delays on the Central line.”
