A man has died at a gay sauna in south London over the weekend.

Officers were called to reports of a death at the Chariots gay sauna in Waterloo at around 8am on Saturday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "The death being treated as non-suspicious and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The coroner has been informed."

Police were unable to confirm the age of the man who died.

Chariots has four saunas across London, with branches at Streatham, Shoreditch and Vauxhall as well as its 24-hour branch in Lower Marsh Street, Waterloo.

Its website describes it as "the UK’s biggest gay and bi-sexual men sauna group".

It adds: "We attract clients of all ages of guys from all over the world at Chariots we have a very strict zero tolerance towards drugs or any other illegal activity."

A source at the sauna, which re-opened later on Saturday, said it was "pretty unlikely" the death was drugs-related.

It comes after three men were taken to hospital after a drugs-related incident at the sauna's Vauxhall branch in February.

And a 37-year-old man died in hospital after collapsing at the nearby Pleasuredome gay sauna in Cornwall Road in March. Two other men died at the venue in 2012 in drugs-related incidents and a third died in hospital after collapsing at the sauna.
