Brockley flood: Six flats submerged as burst water main closes road

Six basement flats were left submerged after a burst water main caused flooding in south London.

Fire crews were today working to pump water out of the flats in Brockley.

The flooding closed off a 100 metre stretch of Malpas Road, according to the London Fire Brigade, which sent five engines to the scene.

The brigade tweeted: "Crews are currently dealing with a burst water main on Malpas Road in #Brockley. Five fire engines are at the scene.

"The flood on Malpas Rd, #Brockley is affecting 100m of roadway and 6 basement flats. 4 lightweight pumps are being used to clear the water."

Thames Water said it was working to to fix the problem "as quickly as we can".
