Stars of West End musicals Top Hat and Singin’ in the Rain today urged Londoners to wear their pyjamas to work on March 15 for Red Nose Day.

Cast members want people to raise money for London’s poor as part of the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund’s initiative for Comic Relief.

Accessorised with top hats, tutus and umbrellas, they encouraged Londoners to get involved in Pyjama Day and put a smile on commuters’ faces.

The cast of Singin’ in the Rain took to the stage of the Palace Theatre spinning umbrellas and wearing striped and navy pyjamas.

Louise Bowden, 31, who plays Kathy Selden and lives in Totteridge, said: “It’s going to be fun and cause so much chaos on the Tube.” Adam Cooper, 41, who plays Dan Lockwood and lives in Buckinghamshire, said pyjamas were much more comfortable than his usual knitted costume.

He added: “It could be quite interesting, as long as nobody comes to work in their birthday suit.”

Top Hat leading lady Kristen Beth Williams, 31, who lives in central London, said she’d had so much fun that she kept her pyjamas on until the next show and co-star Gavin Lee, 41, from Weybridge, said: “Every year, Comic Relief comes up with something new and Pyjama Day is a fantastic idea.”
