The first look at Jenna Coleman in full costume as a young Queen Victoria has arrived in the first teaser trailer for ITV’s new series.

The lavish period drama, simply titled Victoria, sees the former Doctor Who actress take on the notorious monarch in her early years.

It is due to air later in 2016, with a start date yet to be announced.

At just 10 seconds long, the trailer gives very little away about the series – but it does show off stunning production values and a few key cast members.

“I know that I am young, but I am ready for the great responsibility that lies before me,” Coleman intoned in a voiceover, over a scene which appears to show her coronation.

The eight-episode series will follow the queen from the start of her rule, aged just 18, through to her marriage of Prince Albert in 1840.

Coleman left Doctor Who, in which she played companion Clara Oswald, to pursue the role.

“She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can't wait to tell her story,” she said upon being cast in the show.
