Wanted: New son of Satan

A bloody Gregory Peck carries Damien in the original film. .

Playing the Devil's son is not the path to fame most mothers hope for their child.

But a new star could be born in the search for a modern-day 'Damien' to lead in a remake of the cult horror, The Omen.

Boys about five years old with dark hair, pale skin and a menacing smile should apply.

Unlike the lovable characters of Harry Potter and Charlie Bucket, Damien will need to fill cinema audiences with fear.

Director John Moore, who has enlisted British child casting agent Susie Figgs, said: 'The casting process for a new Damien will be under way soon. The role is wide open to all young mothers who want their sons as the sons of Satan.'

It is hoped the remake will be released on June 6 next year so the date's numerals coincide with the 666 birthmark on Damien's scalp.

The new film, with a £ 22.7million budget, is expected to feature the global war on terror as the background to its struggle between good and evil.

But otherwise it will closely mirror the 1976 original, Twentieth Century Fox said. The first film, set mainly in London, features a US couple who adopt Damien. In one scene, the boy's nanny hangs herself in front of a children's party.
