Good Morning Britain has aired a segment on whether Piers Morgan should keep his job as co-host.

During Tuesday's episode, Morgan, 54, called on viewers to support his position by casting their votes on a poll which was held by the television show.

Fans have debated whether the presenter should stay on the show following his latest controversial comments about gender.

The episode also saw Morgan and co-host Susanna Reid hold a heated debate with broadcaster and transgender activist India Willoughby, and journalist Benjamin Butterworth.

The poll was shared by GMB on Twitter, alongside the words: "There are calls for @piersmorgan to be fired over his views on gender. Should he stay or should he go?"

According to the programme, the percentages were split with 42 per cent staying he should stay and 58 per cent saying he should go.

More than 300,000 people have cast votes so far on the poll.

During the programme, Morgan urged for viewers to “not let the snowflakes win” the poll and encouraged viewers to “get voting”.

He said: “The poll yesterday, when I left, was 80 per cent I should stay. It's now been hijacked the snowflake websites and Twitter handles.

"Viewers you're not the snowflake brigade, you are my people.

“You are my army, I need you to get busy this morning. We can’t let the snowflakes win. We need you to get voting.

“Let’s get the numbers up, let’s get the vote back on track, and let’s put the snowflakes firmly back in their box.”

During his speech, where the sound team played the hymn Jerusalem, Reid, 48, highlighted the poll was a democratic vote rather than a “hijacking by the snowflakes”.

The row has come about after Morgan ranted about gender and stated he now identifies a “penguin” in a September episode of the programme.

His comments came after staff at the London Aquarium said a baby penguin of a lesbian penguin couple would be raised “gender-neutral”.

Subsequently, two petitions have been launched in response – one to try and get Morgan fired from the show for his comments and one urging for him to stay.

The petition to remove Morgan has had nearly 18,000 signatures and the petition to keep him has had more than 39,0000 signatures.
