Zamora's heart is still at West Ham

Brighton's goalscoring sensation Bobby Zamora today confessed that he was wrong to walk out on West Ham as a kid and would love to return to Upton Park.

Barking-born Zamora spent four years on the east London club's books, but quit the Hammers in a bid to try to make it with more fashionable London clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal.

Now the 21-goal hitman, whose striking talents for the Third Division side have already attracted a £1.5 million bid from Wigan and interest from Premiership clubs, admits he would love to get another chance at Upton Park.

West Ham manager Harry Redknapp watched his stand-in strikers Davor Suker and Kaba Diawara fire blanks at Highbury on Saturday and he could do a lot worse than enter the bidding for the prolific Brighton youngster before the transfer deadline later this month.

Zamora, who played in the same east London Sunday league side - Senrab - as Chelsea's John Terry, Ledley King of Tottenham and Paul Konchesky of Charlton, would jump at the chance to go back.

Zamora struck his 21st goal of the season in the 2-0 win at Leyton Orient on Saturday and cash-strapped Brighton will find it difficult to resist a £2m-plus bid for their star asset.

Zamora revealed: "I was probably a bit silly to leave West Ham.

"I was on the books of a number of London clubs, Charlton, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham, and I had four years as a kid at Upton Park during the time Joe Cole and the rest were coming through the ranks.

"I think I did okay there, but I wanted to try my luck at different clubs in and around London and decided to move on."

He admitted: "Looking back, I should probably have stuck it out at West Ham, especially when you look at the way the club have brought so many young players through the system and into the first team today.

"But you never know, I might get the chance to play for West Ham again one day.

"I'd love to go back and score goals for them because that's my team."
