Woodward fears for Thomas

14 April 2012

Sir Clive Woodward has revealed his mounting frustration at the delayed arrival of Wales captain Gareth Thomas in New Zealand.

The British and Irish Lions head coach said today that Thomas will almost certainly not make it into the team for the First Test on 25 June if he does not play in at least one or two warm-up matches.

The Lions management are in negotiations with Thomas's French club Toulouse for the full-back's release. But with the newly crowned European champions still battling it out for the French championship, they are reluctant to let him leave.

"It would be fair to say that the longer this goes on then the less chance he has to play in the Test," said Woodward.

England's Jason Robinson will join the squad on 7 June after spending time with his pregnant wife. Woodward said: "His wife is a lot better. He can play against Wellington."
