Wood 'livid' over relegation row

13 April 2012

Harlequins captain Keith Wood is "livid" after his side were dumped to the bottom of the Zurich Premiership following confusion over the rules.

The Premiership issued a statement clarifying the rules governing what happens if two or more teams are tied on points.

In the event of a tie, a team's league position is dictated by the number of wins achieved, rather than by points difference as had previously been thought.

The confusion led to Leeds leapfrogging Quins out of the relegation spot thanks to their six wins, compared to Harlequins' four.

Wood said: "I'm livid. I woke up of this morning and Harlequins were one off the bottom. Now we're at the bottom of the table again.

"The problem is that if the season finished this morning Leeds would be relegated. If it finished tonight Quins would be relegated.

"That can't be right. Last week we actively went for a bonus point to get ourselves outside the drop out zone. It affects Bristol, Saracens and perhaps Bath."
