Wolves wait for news on Bridge

Super League title hopefuls Warrington face an anxious wait to see how long they will be without England centre Chris Bridge after he suffered a shoulder injury in the 37-30 defeat to Leeds.

The Wolves, who remain four points behind leaders Wigan as a result of the loss, were unable to find a way to finish off the reigning champions, who eventually proved to be too strong for Tony Smith's side.

Smith's problems were compounded by Bridge's injury, and the Australian is worried about the 25-year-old's condition. "We'll have to have a good look at Chris Bridge, he's been carrying an injury for a few weeks and I think we're going to have some not so good news on him."

He added: "We are fearing the worst and it will be a shame if we have to break this good run for him as I think this has been his best ever season and I'm pretty sure it is not looking good for him.

"It is possibly a season-ending injury, I'm afraid that's what we're staring down the barrel of. We'll give some confirmation of that in the week."

England half-back Danny McGuire was lauded by his Leeds coaches after the Rhinos, missing seven first-team players, kept themselves in the race for a top-four finish.

McGuire was one of their top performers and scored the match-winning try with a mazy run that tied former Leeds team-mate Richie Mathers in knots.

"He and Richie go back a long way and Richie knew Danny had a few tricks in his pocket," said Leeds' assistant coach Francis Cummins.

"He didn't quite know which one he was going to pull out and he beat him with a bit of pace."
