Win makes Stoner feel much better

13 April 2012

World champion Casey Stoner overcame illness to maintain his Moto GP title charge in Germany with a third consecutive victory.

The Ducati rider struggled in the early part of the season but, after wins at Donington Park and Assen, he rode brilliantly again at the Sachsenring, finishing 3.708 seconds ahead of Italy's Valentino Rossi.

The Australian said: "I had been feeling sick since Saturday morning and my concentration levels were low. We were lucky to come out of this with the victory."

Casey is now third in the championship, 16 points behind new leader Rossi.

Spain's Dani Pedrosa has dropped down to second, 12 points adrift of Rossi. He retired after a heavy spill on lap six when he paid the price for pushing the pace in the wet.
