Win is sweet for Radcliffe

Paula Radcliffe remained upbeat today despite her failure to set a new European 10,000 metre record in Spain on Saturday.

Radcliffe won the event in Barakaldo, northern Spain, ahead of Germany's Irina Mikitenko, but the Bedford athlete was more than 40 seconds outside Ingrid Kristiansen's record, set in 1986.

Radcliffe said: "I really wanted to break the European record but you have to remember what a good mark it is."
