Wimbledon invite IOC chief

13 April 2012

IOC president Jacques Rogge will attend next weekend's women's singles final as Wimbledon takes centre stage in London's 2012 Olympics bid from tomorrow.

Standard Sport understands that Rogge has accepted an invitation to sit in the Royal Box at the All England Club, which will stage the tennis if London wins next year's International Olympic Committee vote to stage the Games.

Tomorrow, Wimbledon will host the start of London's leg of the Athens Olympics torch relay with Sir Roger Bannister and Tim Henman carrying it across Centre Court.

Once the torch has left the Wimbledon area, 40 banners will go up outside of the grounds to advertise the London bid to visitors.
