Williams wants to win battle of minds

14 April 2012

Danny claims he has the mental strength to come through his clash with former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson in Louisville, Kentucky, on 30 July.

Few have ever doubted that Williams, the former British and Commonwealth title holder, has the technical ability to go all the way to the top.

However, his temperament, heart and desire have often come under scrutiny following lacklustre defeats by Julius Francis, Sinan Samil Sam and, most recently, Michael Sprott.

The 30-year-old from Brixton has admitted to breaking down in tears ahead of bouts he was expected to easily win.

But this time he is determined to revel in the role of underdog against the fighter once described as the "baddest man on the planet".

"I have always wanted a fight where I have been the underdog and where there is no pressure on me," said Williams.

"When people talk about me fighting Michael Sprott or Keith Long, I got so nervous because everybody expects me to beat those guys. But against Tyson, nothing is expected, so I'll go out there nice and relaxed.

"Everyone in the world is watching this fight, and it's time for me to fight like I do in the gym.

"In the past, I've not been performing to my maximum, but in this fight I think it will be different.

"I'm going to go out there all guns blazing and give it my best. I've got enough to give Mike Tyson some serious trouble."
