Williams catsuit all white for SW19

Serena Williams will have to submit her controversial catsuit to Wimbledon officials if she wants to repeat the sensational figure-hugging performance she produced at the US Open.

As Pete Sampras made his sensational comeback - he beat Andre Agassi in the men's final in four sets - the talk of New York was whether the younger Williams sister would be allowed to wear her all-in-one kit at the All England Club.

Serena, who beat Venus for her third successive Grand Slam title, is likely to opt for a white version of the one-piece suit at Wimbledon and Chris Gorringe, the All England Club's chief executive, told Standard Sport: "If she does want to wear her outfit in white then it would have to be sent to the Club by the makers so it can be vetted."

Wimbledon rules insist tennis kit must be predominantly white, though they don't have a section on how much of a player's body should be covered.

Meanwhile, Britain's Greg Rusedski was today labelled "really ignorant" for claiming Pete Sampras was a spent force. British No2 Rusedski said after losing to Sampras in the third round: "He's not playing great and I will be surprised if he wins his next match. He's a great player from the past."

Agassi, who played a big part in the battle of the thirtysomethings, said: "There is still a lot of danger in the way Pete plays and anyone who says something different is really ignorant."

Sampras said: "Greg said what he said and he's got his own issues to deal with. We are talking about the wrong guy. In fact, Greg's issues have issues."
