Wildcats recruit King

12 April 2012

Wakefield Wildcats have confirmed the capture of Hull's long-serving prop forward Paul King on a 12-month contract.

The 30-year-old former Great Britain international is a straight replacement for overseas forward James Stosic, who was released by the Wildcats because of quota restrictions, and is expected to start training with his new team-mates this week.

King, who was Hull's longest-serving player, was released by the club despite having 12 months left on his contract.

Wakefield coach John Kear said: "I'm delighted that Paul has agreed to join us. I worked with him when I was coach at the KC Stadium and have a great deal of respect for him, both as a man and as a player.

"He's a very experienced player who has appeared at the highest levels of the sport and will be a valuable addition to our squad for next year.

"Because we have not been able to retain James Stosic, the addition of Paul King will see us maintain our front-row power."

King, who was a member of Hull's Challenge Cup-winning team under Kear in 2005, made more than 200 first-team appearances for his hometown club and played in 14 of their last 15 matches of the 2009 season

He won a solitary cap for Great Britain and played once for England, both appearances coming in 2001.

King is Wakefield's sixth confirmed signing for 2010, joining Daryl Millard (Canterbury Bulldogs), ex-Bradford trio Ben Jeffries, Terry Newton, Glenn Morrison and Shane Tronc (North Queensland).
