Wigan eye Harewood as McCulloch exits

Wigan hope to sign West Ham striker Marlon Harewood in a £3.7million deal after agreeing to let Lee McCulloch move to Rangers.

Boss Chris Hutchings improved his bid for Harewood and will open talks today after Rangers increased their bid for McCulloch to £2.5m.

The club had rejected two previous offers but finally gave in after the Scotland midfielder insisted he was keen on the move.

Wigan, who hope to fend off Blackburn interest in Henri Camara, will offer Leighton Baines a five-year contract to stop him joining Sunderland after rejecting two bids of about £5m.

Hutchings said: "I'm trying to build a team here and not sell our best players."
