Whiting out for the season

Hull have suffered a double injury blow with utility back Richard Whiting ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken arm, and winger Mark Calderwood almost certain to join him due to a hamstring problem.

The 25-year-old Whiting, who is the club's only ever-present this year, picked up the injury in last Thursday's 20-16 derby victory over Hull KR. X-rays have confirmed a fracture close to a screw and plate he had fitted following a previous broken arm.

Hull coach Richard Agar said: "It will take around eight weeks to heal so it is a blow for us as he will be out for the season. I am really disappointed for Rich as he as been ever present for us this season and played in a variety of positions."

Calderwood, who had only just returned in Thursday's match from a long-term hamstring injury, has now injured his other hamstring and is facing another lengthy spell out of the game.

"We are awaiting the results of tests for Calders but we do suspect he could be out for the rest of the season," added Agar.
