West Ham snap up Deane

14 April 2012

Brian Deane has joined First Division West Ham on a free transfer from Leicester City.

Former Leicester boss Dave Bassett signed 35-year-old Deane two seasons ago from Middlesbrough.

But he has been a fringe player for the Foxes this season under current manager Micky Adams.

Deane made his last appearance for the bottom of the table Premiership outfit in Wednesday's Carling Cup defeat at Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Alan Pardew goes into his fourth match in charge of West Ham at Coventry tomorrow still looking for his first win at the helm.

But the manager is not downhearted about the future, following his makeshift team's feisty performance against Tottenham in Wednesday's 1-0 Carling Cup defeat.

He said: "The spirit has been excellent since I came here and the good thing is that we're starting to get players back from injury now.

"Ian Pearce is fit again while Hayden Mullins and Tomas Repka are both available."

However, David Connolly and Robbie Stockdale are both out this weekend and there is a doubt about Matthew Etherington.
