Wenger: We must finish above United

Arsene Wenger wants to beat Manchester United to second spot in the Premiership to avoid massive disruption to his summer plans.

Arsenal are in third place just two points behind United going into tomorrow's clash with Norwich at Highbury. Although their hopes of catching Chelsea at the top ended some weeks ago, the Arsenal manager says there is still plenty of incentive to end the season strongly.

Finishing third will mean Arsenal having to face a Champions League qualifier.

"If we cannot win the title, we want to finish as close as possible to Chelsea," said Wenger.

"We showed our approach and our attitude when we won a difficult match at Blackburn two weeks ago.

"A Champions League qualifier would affect the preseason planning, no question. At the moment we have to plan for both options - that is, with and without a qualifying game.

"There is a danger that if you have one of those matches, they can be very tricky.

"Newcastle were eliminated recently against Partizan Belgrade even after a good result away from home. We want to avoid that and prepare as we normally do for the season."

Thierry Henry looks set to miss the game against Norwich. He is still suffering from a calf injury that kept him out of the last two Arsenal matches and France's World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Israel.

Dennis Bergkamp is also out, but there could be places in the squad for both Sol Campbell and Gilberto Silva.
