Webber star of 'brilliant' display

Cardiff 0 Watford 3

Ray Lewington hailed a "brilliant" performance by Watford after they crushed Cardiff 3-0 last night to move to sixth in the Championship with a game in hand.

Two goals from Danny Webber, 22, moved him clear at the top of the league's scoring chart with his seventh and eighth strikes of the season. They came either side of an effort by Neal Ardley.

Manager Lewington said: "It was a brilliant performance. Danny will get the headlines, of course, but he doesn't get the chances without the rest of the players backing him up.

"Cardiff are lacking in confidence. If we started well and quietened the fans we would be on our way, and that is how it happened."

Watford's former coach Terry Burton, who takes over as assistant coach at Cardiff today, was in the stands. "I saw Terry after the match and he had a strange look on his face," said Lewington.
