We're in it to win it - Brown

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown insists his Giants side are not in the last four of the Engage Super League play-offs just to make up the numbers.

Brown's men pulled off a shock win at Challenge Cup holders Warrington to go within 80 minutes of a maiden Grand Final and he says they are not finished yet as they prepare to tackle four-times champions St Helens in tonight's first semi-final.

"We're up here sitting with St Helens, Wigan and Leeds, a prospect that four or five years ago I imagine would probably have been laughed at," he said. "But this is just a natural progression and we're not just here to make up the numbers, we feel we've as good a chance as anyone."

It is 48 years since Huddersfield were last crowned rugby league champions but two recent appearances in the Challenge Cup final as well as a third-place finish in Super League hinted at a major resurgence and Brown believes the Giants have now earned the right to sit at the top table.

Giants captain Brett Hodgson is confident his side can spoil Saints' party and dash their hopes of reaching a fifth successive trip to Old Trafford.

"When it's all finished I guess it will be something to look back on with pride I guess but our priority is to go there and disappoint the Saints fans," he said.

"They're a great side, with quality players from one to 17, but we're pretty confident going into the game.

"We let ourselves down in the second half at Warrington a little bit so we've certainly a lot of work to do.

"We're by no means the finished article yet. There has to be more improvement. This week takes it up another level and we have to be better."
