Warnock backs Redknapp for England

QPR boss Neil Warnock is pleased Fabio Capello will soon leave the England post and believes Harry Redknapp is the ideal man to fill the void.

Comments attributed to Warnock emerged on Thursday in which he apparently expressed his belief that he could be a successful England manager, but would not get the job as he is not "fashionable".

Warnock has since cooled those reports, and said: "I am quite pleased, if I am honest, that Capello is leaving. That means no disrespect to him but I think the time has come. We have some good managers and Harry would be my choice because I think it needs a Harry Redknapp-type now to get the best out of the players."

He added: "I think without doubt we have talented players and I think Harry would be brave enough to give the young lads an opportunity.

"I think it is the right time now because we are not going to win the European Championships in my eyes, so why not blood some of these young lads similar to Spain and Germany a few years ago?

"It is difficult when you are in your last competition to give lads experience because you're not really bothered about it as manager.

"You're bothered about doing well and going out with a smile on your face."
