Villa target Sidwell holds out for Scolari talks and pay-off from Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell wants talks with new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari before deciding whether to make a £5.5m move to Aston Villa.

Villa have reached an informal agreement with Chelsea to sign Sidwell, who has three years left on his contract and would want a pay-off if he left Stamford Bridge.

His agent Eric Walters said: ‘Steve feels Villa are a very, very good club and would offer a very good future for him.

‘But he is no rush to leave Chelsea. There is a new manager coming in and he would at least like to meet with him over the next couple of weeks to discuss his future in person.

‘He is entitled to some compensation if Chelsea agree to part with him.’

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Chelsea midfielder Jimmy Smith on a 12-month loan deal.

Smith, 21, has made only one Premier League appearance for Chelsea, but scored six goals in 22 starts on loan at QPR two seasons ago and played nine times on loan at Norwich City last season.
