Vidic on verge of new deal at United

13 April 2012

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is about to sign a new £60,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford.

Vidic, 26, still has twoand- half years left on the deal he signed when he arrived at Old Trafford in January 2006 from Spartak Moscow for a £7million fee.

But the Serbian international, who began his professional career with Red Star Belgrade, has been rewarded with a lucrative new deal after proving to be a key member of the team.

His partnership with Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence has been particularly successful and Vidic has also proved to be a useful goalscorer.

France international Patrice Evra, who signed in the same month as Vidic, is also in talks over a new contract after making an impact at left back, even though the 26-year-old had a shaky start to his United career.

Both players' deals are expected to be extended up to the summer of 2012.
