Veron 'will sign tomorrow'

13 April 2012

Juan Sebastian Veron will fly into Manchester tomorrow to undergo a medical and then complete his move to the Premiership champions.

It is expected the 26-year-old Lazio midfielder, valued at £23.5million, will be unveiled at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Veron's arrival pushes Sir Alex Ferguson's summer spending to more than £42million, having previously landed Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy for £19million.

Veron has emerged unscathed from the Italian passport investigation that threatened to halt not only his move to United but his career.

The arrival of Veron will satisfy Ferguson's demands to be able to bring in world class players in his final season as manager.

There will be intense pressure for places in United's midfield, where the club have tied up new contracts for Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs, while David Beckham, who has bitter memories of his World Cup clash with Veron in France '98, is also negotiating a new deal.
