Vermeulen is sent packing

13 April 2012

Zimbabwe opener Mark Vermeulen will miss the forthcoming one-day NatWest Series against England and South Africa after being sent home for 'persistent misconduct'.

The decision was taken after the 24-year-old refused to travel with the rest of the squad following Friday's play in the Second Test at Chester-le-Street.

A disciplinary hearing was held at the touring party's hotel in Durham and team manager Babu Meman said: "Mark has been warned about his conduct on a number of occasions but has not heeded that advice. This was the final straw."

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka beat the West Indies by four wickets in Bridgetown to take a winning 2-0 lead in their three-match one-day series. Chasing the home side's 312 for four, Sri Lanka won with three balls left with Upal Chandana scoring 89 off 71.
