Venables leads running for Republic job after Jewell snub

Terry Venables remains favourite for the Republic of Ireland job after Paul Jewell ruled himself out. Jewell had talks last week with Johnny Giles, who is sounding out candidates, but said: 'I miss the club day-to-day activity with players and that's what I would prefer.'

Gerard Houllier and Roy Hodgson are other contenders.
