United must bid more for Di Canio

Ken Dyer13 April 2012

West Ham are today waiting to see whether Manchester United are prepared to up their offer for Italian striker Paolo Di Canio.

The London club have already rejected one undisclosed bid from the champions, believed to be around the £2million mark, but United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to increase his offer for the 33-year-old.

West Ham are believed to want at least £3m for the player and manager Glenn Roeder confirmed today: "Manchester United made a faxed bid for Paolo, but it was rejected. The ball is now back in their court."

The transfer fee for Di Canio would allow Roeder to add to his meagre first-team squad and also enable him to seek, in addition, a loan replacement.

One possibility would be Savo Milosevic, who is with Italian club Parma. The Yugoslavian was at Aston Villa between 1995 and 1998.
