The Daily Star reports that Gill said: "Chelsea the last few years have been having a great time in America, which is fine.

"We do what's right for us and we're comfortable with the opportunities with out history, our ground, our heritage, the way we play football, etc."

he added: " Is America ever going to be as passionate as Asia? I wouldn't have thought so.

"Obviously with having American owners, it makes sense to go there at some stage. But they wouldn't insist that we go there just because we own the club."

Gilll is quoted as saying: "There's a lot of interest and appetite for Premier League football in Asia and for Manchester United in particular. That's where the Glazers see the growth and that's where we see the growth."
