UEFA crackdown on troublemaking coaches

14 April 2012

UEFA today warned clubs they face heavy punishments if coaches make deliberately provocative comments under new laws to be introduced following Chelsea's row with Anders Frisk.

At today's meeting of European football's executive committee in Tallinn, chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson promised tough new sanctions.

Frisk retired after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho accused the Swedish referee of meeting with Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard at halftime in their Champions League clash.

The sanctions will be announced in June and Olsson said: "What we have to agree with the clubs is that it is their responsibility if coaches destabilise the opponent as a preparation for matches."

Meanwhile, Spain's Anti-Violence Commission will make another appeal against the leniency of Luis Aragones' fine for a racist comment about Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

Aragones was fined just over £2000 following the remarks made to Henry's Arsenal team-mate, Jose Reyes, during a training session with the Spain team. The Commission will now take the matter to the Spanish Committee of Sports Discipline.
