Udal calls it a day

Former England spinner Shaun Udal has admitted it was the "toughest decision of his life" to retire from the game.

The 38-year-old, who played four Tests and 11 one-day internationals, enjoyed a 20-year professional career with Hampshire, for whom he finished as the 11th highest wicket-taker in the county's history.

"It was the toughest decision of my life but it's the right one," he told the Southern Daily Echo.

"The over-riding factor was wanting to be remembered as a decent player instead of just hanging on.

"I wanted to go out on my own terms and I had to think of the club because they've been great to me."
